Helping Communities Connect with Herbs

Our Story

At Community Herbs, we’re committed to positively impacting communities through local plant medicine and skincare, education, and intergenerational connections.

Our products are made with organically cultivated and sustainably wild-harvested plant material with your health, the health of the plants and the planet in mind. We use fresh, high-quality ingredients to facilitate an exceptional end product.

Through educational community classes, we promote awareness surrounding plant medicine, yoga and mindfulness, social emotional awareness and much more. Our facilitators offer a variety of classes, plant walks, and workshops.

Community Herbs Intergenerational programs are designed to increase interaction and encourage relationships between people of different generations. Our programs will allow participants to share their talents and resources, and support each other to benefit both the individual and their community.

About the Founder

Hello, I’m Audrey! I am a community herbalist, yoga teacher, and entrepreneur. On a mission to bring herbal remedies, wellness practices, and loving connections to family and friends, I founded Community Herbs in 2020. Community Herbs provides high quality herbal products, educational workshops, and intergenerational programs to support and inspire people of all ages. With a deep respect for people, plants, and fungi, I combine studies of herbalism, social emotional learning, and mindfulness application to benefit individuals and the community at large. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas where I was certified and apprenticed under Ginger Webb of Sacred Journey School of Herbalism. I continue my studies with local herbalists, mentors, and yoga teachers. Prior to creating Community Herbs, I worked in the nonprofit sector, managing yoga studios, hosting yoga trainings, and co-facilitating mindfulness youth programs.

Our Process

Harvesting
Sustainably Minded

We support organic agriculture and sustainably minded producers. Most of our fresh and dried herbs are sourced from local and regional wildcrafters and growers while some plants are hand harvested in Austin, Texas.

Blending
Extraction Process

Each herbal extract and oil has its own Master Manufacturing Record that includes the specifics of the extraction process. For our herbal aids, plants are combined with a specific combination of distilled water, organic grain alcohol, or organic apple cider vinegar to best extract that particular herb’s properties. By blending the herbs we are able to extract a large amount of the plant’s constituents into the liquid. We use fresh plants for all of our herbal aids at 1:2 ratio or stronger.

For our herb infused oils we use a unique and lesser known technique called alcohol intermediary method. The process takes about 24 hours and results in a high quality and shelf stable oil. The method involves using dry herbs and alcohol as an intermediary substance to draw out the healing properties of the plant and make it more readily available to the oil. Herbs are carefully weighed and liquids are precisely measured for each batch, to create consistent products.

Maceration
Steeping the Herbs

Air tight, glass mason jars are used for the extracting process of maceration. During maceration the blended herbs steep in the extracting liquid, known as the menstruum, for 4-6 weeks. Slow extraction creates a potent extract.

Pressing
Filtering & Straining

A hydraulic press is used to squeeze the plant liquid after maceration is complete. Our tinctures and elixirs are strained to remove large particles but you may notice fine sediment. We strain and filter our herb infused oils to ensure there is little to no plant material in the finished product.

Formulating
Thoughtfully Designed

All of our skincare products are oil based which allows us to avoid using preservatives. The organic, clean ingredients and thoughtfully formulated skin oils are designed to nourish, hydrate, and protect your skin. We believe fresh ingredients are more potent, effective and safe. This is why all our products are made in small, monthly batches and are guaranteed fresh. We conduct regular audits to ensure no items are past their expiration date and delivered to you within a month from the bottling date.

Bottling & Packaging
Ensuring Quality

Herbal aids and oils are bottled in amber glass bottles to protect them from light and sealed with a tamper evident seal to ensure you receive a quality end product. Every bottle is labeled with a specific batch number to ensure traceability of product to ingredients and vice versa.
